Ministry Focus

History

Doug & Cheryl came to Japan for the first time together in the early 1990's. Doug's call to Japan was somewhat natural, having grown up in Japan. Cheryl wasn't sure about her call to overseas ministry unitl after one year of living in Japan. During that year she grew to love the Japanese people and their culture.

Doug & Cheryl have been involved togther in a wide variety of ministry opportunities since they were married in 1986. They have worked as a team in doing music ministry, small group Bible studies, children's ministry, youth and college ministry. They have done singles minsitry as well.

Doug did his undergraduate work in Music and Biblical Studies at Bethel University, MN and at Colorado Christian University. He received a Master of Ministry degree from Trinity Theoligical Seminary in Newburgh, IN. Besides missionary work in Japan, Doug was an Associate Pastor at Central Free Church, Minneapolis,MN from 1999-2003. Doug was ordained in the summer of 2005 by the Evangelical Free Church of America(EFCA). He is a member of the EFCA ministrial association as well as the Japan Evangelcial Free Church Ministrial Association.

Cheryl has been teaching in both private (Christiain and International) and public schools ( in Minnesota) for over 20 years. Cheryl earned both her BA and MA in Education from Bethel University in St. Paul,MN. She is most passionate working in Children's ministries. She has been involved in teaching and developing curriculm in a number of settings. She also enjoyes sharing inspirational messages with women and leading women's Bible studies.

Current

Doug and Cheryl landed in Fukuoka in 2004 and started helping the Fukuoka Evangelical Free Church. This church has grown and it is now time to start the third church plant in the Fukuoka Area.

While still helping at the Fukuoka EFC we started the Meinohama Christian Center in November 2006. This is a place for Outreach Conversation English classes, Bible studies, Worship services,Kids Clubs and special events. It is our desire that this center will help to multiply healthy churches in Fukuoka.
